Douglas Gil, known artistically as D. Gil, is a Venezuelan artist whose work delves into complexities of human expression through a unique blend of expressionism and surrealism.
Originally trained in Integral Education, he worked as a high school teacher and later as an instructor in commercial aviation schools before fully dedicating himself to his artistic practice. He has also been involved in practicing and teaching Martial Arts for over 30 years at a high competive level.
Although self-taught, he has refined his craft through specialized studies, including a Human Figure Drawing course with Master Abilio Padrón at the museum of Fine Arts in Caracas, a History of Art course at the Prado Museum in Spain, and a course on teaching Art History at the Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas.
D. Gil’s work is distinguished by his deformed human figures, particularly distorted faces, which serves as a medium for exploring the mind, dreams, and perception of reality. His paintings, executed in oil and acrylic on canvas, wood and paper, incorporate symbolic elements that evoke deep introspection. Through his art, he seeks to capture emotions that often remain unspoken, inviting viewers to reflect on the nature of existence.
His work has been exhibited in Venezuela, Argentina, France (Paris and Brittany), and The United States, gaining recognition for its evocative and thought-provoking style.
